Dear Parents,
The week of the WASC self-study visit is over. Thank you very much for your support this week. You helped in many ways, i.e., working with the parking, attending the parent interview, helping your children get to school on time, etc. The accreditation team was impressed with you, your children, and our school.
Did we succeed? Yes! We received the accreditation! We can’t officially write it on our website yet because it has to go through a committee which will be held, hopefully, in April. However, the team told us many times that we are now an accredited school. They also told us that we have many improvements to make, which is how the WASC accreditation operates. We must always improve. The accreditation process is never a one-time visit. Every school must have visit recurrent visits, usually every two or three years.
As soon as I receive the report, I will write to the parents the specifics on the many items we must work on. The lists below are just some.
Some things we must work on are:
We have to:
Digitalize everything.
Document everything online.
Have more teacher meetings.
Have more teacher professional development.
Continue to ensure and prove that the older students are more globally competent and have provable global skills. They said we had a good start, but we must continue to improve in these areas.
Have more student-centered teaching.
Things they loved about the school:
Caring teachers and staff (They commended me several times for finding such a fantastic group of teachers and staff, and I agree!)
Great students
Supportive parents
Strong leadership
The atmosphere, saying it was like a family
The faith-based curriculum, saying it works beautifully in our school
Thank you, again, for your support. We couldn’t do this without you!
Best regards,
Suzy Brown,
Principal of New Life International School
